Ninjam Warriors
A downloadable game for Windows
Made for Ninjam game jam.
The goal was to emulate an old ninja game. We chose to emulate the old NES game Ninja Warriors. The two characters are copies of the original. We also sought to thematically link it to the original by making it a kind of prequel that would show how the ninjas actually get to the fight scene that shows up in the NES game. We didn't have enough time to add all the exposition we wanted, but that is the basic idea.
We also wanted to change some things. We made it a multiplayer game and made it so the levels could not be completed without a team mate. We also made more sneaking than fighting.
We developed it with Xbox controllers. In theory other gamepads should work but we never tested that.
We hope you enjoy our take. We made it in 1 month so it still needs a lot of work, but it should be basically playable. Please feel free to give any constructive feedback. We are always open to learn more.

Is it single player or 2 player as I the start button isn't lighting up to play it :/
yeah, we made it 2 player only. The button wont light up until the second person joins.
My brother and I are really focusing on creating similar experiences to it takes two or overcooked, and decided each game we would make would be a multiplayer coach coop type game.
I know that's not ideal for a jam, and we went back and forth on it, but in the end we figured these are good learning experiences for us and decided on keeping it 2 player.
I'll test it again when I'm co-working with my colleague in the next few weeks as I don't have a second controller... how about adding keyboard controls for a 2nd player?
yeah, wouldn't be too hard to get that set up. We had some other little bugs we'd like to get fixed so maybe we'll try and get a new build on here in the next day or two.
